‘El yoga no es un deporte’: La movilización de los profesores de yoga autónomos contra las plataformas de fitness

La pandemia Covid-19 aceleró el auge de las plataformas de fitness que ofrecen a los estudiantes acceso a clases en línea. Sin embargo, poco se sabe sobre cómo perciben estas plataformas los profesionales del fitness. Este artículo se centra en un grupo de profesores de yoga de Berlín que se resistieron a la creciente influencia de las plataformas de fitness en su campo. A partir de un estudio de caso –Fair Yoga Initiative–, y utilizando métodos mixtos, el artículo investiga por qué y cómo este grupo de trabajadores independientes se movilizó contra las plataformas. Investigaciones previas sugieren que los trabajadores independientes de plataformas se enfrentan a numerosos retos a la hora de construir poder colectivo, como la heterogeneidad y la fragmentación de la mano de obra. El estudio revela la importancia de los intereses subjetivos para superar estos retos y motivar a los profesores de yoga a defender su profesión de las presiones de valorización que representan las plataformas de fitness. El artículo explora cómo el género puede desempeñar un papel en la configuración de los intereses subjetivos en esta profesión feminizada. El artículo también destaca la importancia de los derechos de los trabajadores independientes en los debates actuales sobre la regulación de las plataformas laborales digitales en la Unión Europea. A pesar de operar en un entorno legal restrictivo, los profesores de yoga en este caso aprovecharon su poder colectivo para influir en el discurso público sobre las plataformas de fitness. En el artículo, argumento que las nuevas organizaciones de trabajadores pueden poner de relieve los derechos de grupos profesionales específicos, contribuyendo al desarrollo de leyes que protejan mejor sus intereses.
